Online class discussions

What surprised me the most when I watched these kid talk was the fact that he seemed as if he doesn’t recognize the surrounding around him. For instance, the class sounded full of pupils during the first instance but according to Bobby it was as if he was alone in some world of his own. Additionally, he exhibited a lot of anger just from his words when he was presented with class materials and he did not hesitate to throw them away. In the second instance, what was surprising was the fact that this time round Bobby seemed to be aware of the fact that he was not alone and when asked if he was going to join the rest he accepted. Though he only scribbled his name on the note book, it shows that this time he aware of his surroundings.

Looking at Bobby’s response during the second instance shows that this strategy used by his teacher will be beneficial in the long run. Though it might take time, it is enough proof with Booby that with time things might get better with a little understanding and patience from the instructor. Down syndrome is a condition that affects people from all walks of life including economic conditions. Characteristically, Down syndrome is one of the mostcommonly occurring chromosomal anomalies condition that occurs at list once in every 800 to 1,000 live births (ndss, 2004). In the United States alone, approximately 350,000 people have Down syndrome(ndss, 2004).

Some of the disadvantages that come with Down syndrome is the fact that an individual is at a higher risk of suffering from some health complications(ndss, 2004). Though there is an increased risk of suffering from certain medical disorderslikened to the general population, developments in medicine have guaranteed most of the health conditions can becurable and today most individuals suffering from Down syndrome lead healthy lives(ndss, 2004). It is therefore, advisable to accept and not give up on people suffering from Down syndrome. Bobby’s instructor was therefore on the right track in not giving up on Bobby.

Characteristically, people suffering from Down syndrome normally experience instances ofcognitive delays, however, it should be understood that, these effects are generallyslightto moderate and they are usually not symbolic of the many strengths and abilities that every singlepersonhas(ndss, 2004). I remember when I was in high school, we had a colleague from our class called Collins who more or less acted like Bobby. He used to come to class very early and start drawing very nice pictures of such things like cars, motorbikes and houses. When the instructor entered the class, Collins used to cover himself with this hood and lay his head on the desk without making any contributions. In fact, Collins never carried any class materials to class.

Though our instructors were annoyed with his behavior, our principle was positive that Collins would one day emerge to be an important person in the society. Twenty years later, today Collins is one of the most renowned architects in the Middle East. It later emerged that Collins had a good imagination, the pictures he used to draw were things that he had seen. He later met a professor who understood him and introduced him to a team of architects who trained him and today his creativity is admired by millions. Though Collins suffered from Down syndrome, this condition does not deter him from showing his abilities. In summary, we should not give up on any person suffering from Down syndrome.
